Defamation of further education lecturers [Aug. 22nd, 2008|06:00 pm]
[Tags|]

THIS STILL AIN'T JENNA DELICH

It would appear that Harry's Place and this blog, in observing that Jenna Delich endorsed views found on the personal website of former KKK Grand Wizard and Nazi-sympatizer, David Duke, defamed further education lecturers. Such professionals provide a vital service to less academically-minded young people, and returning adults who fell through mouseholes in the education system. Although not academics or PhDs, they should not be disparaged for this.

However, on checking Ms. Delich's CV (which is relegated far down the Google list for her name), it would seem that she is not a FE lecturer, but in the "education management industry".

So, if this blog has caused unintentional distress to FE lecturers, it offers its unreserved apologies.

THE FIGURE ON THE RIGHT AIN'T FROM HARRY'S PLACE, AND THE ONE ON THE LEFT AIN'T A PRO-BOYCOTTERS FROM UCU

Harry's Place, that cauldron battle in the Stupid Wars, has transferred its domain to a new DNS providor, and has thus regained virtual form. The whole affair should leave a very nasty taste in the mouth of anyone who remotely supports free-expression and is unsettled by the antiquated libel laws in the UK. By far the best supportive blog for HP is here [1].

Better news, the Sheffield-based FE lecturer, Jenna Delich, who used the UCU e-mail list to recommend the views expressed in an article located on the personal website of David Duke appears to have been suspended indefinitely from the list. Thank you to a moderator whom I assume ain't Mike Cushman, a research fellow based at the LSE.

I will keep this blog posted, and may even resurrect it for my own chit-chat, but must demure for a few days.

The Duke makes the top eight [Aug. 21st, 2008|06:56 am]
[Tags|]

Not David Duke, the former KKK leader and well-known, to those who know, antisemite and Nazi sympathizer, but this Duke.

This page is now in the top eight of Google hits for "Jenna Delich". Does that mean it's true that this Sheffield-based higher education lecturer promotes articles found on KKK-associated and pro-Nazi sites?

Jenna Delich and industrial relations [Aug. 21st, 2008|06:25 am]

THIS AIN'T JENNA DELICH'S APPROACH TO INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS

An insight into the Violet Elizabeth Bott mind of Jenna Delich can be found in a case for discrimination she appears to have brought against her employers recently [1].

Maybe someone else can explain what is happening, because I am having difficulty penetrating the self-centred tone. Pay particular attention to the article title. Given the way that UCU has gone recently, accusing it of being in thrall to the "Zionist Mafia" speaks volumes about the pathopsychology of anyone doing so.

It's not nice being bullied at work as your trade union sits by, is it not, Ms. Delich?

We will defend Jenna Delich with the sword of truth and trusty shield of UCU fair play [Aug. 21st, 2008|06:08 am]

THIS AIN'T MIKE CUSHMAN

... well, what UCU e-mail list organizer, research fellow Mike Cushman, actually said was, "this is a potentially libellous statement [Sheffield-based academic (sic.), Jenna Delich - links to far right websites associated with the Klu Klux Klan] and I would urge Jenna to contact hurryupharry’s ISP". Apart from the matter that she, in keeping with a great many of pro-boycotters, ain't no academic, let alone research active, this is true, ain't it, Mr. Cushman? Both she and you have conceded she did link to the website of David Duke, former Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan and, to any "political activist" with half a brain, notorious racist and antisemite.

I'd check up on the definiton of "libellous". It doesn't mean what you seem to think it means. Haven't you got some students to educate, and contract lecturers *and* academics to assist?

Another honey from Mr. Cushman was, "I have complained about list members publishing to Hurry up harry before but no action has been taken and nobody who is praised by hurry up harryhas dissociated themselves [...]". Yeah, so? This is a 700 strong trade union list maintained by resources paid for by all UCU members and state funding: it is not there for you to discuss boycotts, shouting down dissenters, which you have been informed would almost certainly be illegal. Pretty rich also, coming from those who propose only associating with Israeli academics if they disclose their political allegiences and disassociated themselves from those you deem unacceptable, to then start whining about privacy.

Get back to school, you stupid little children. I know you, I recognize you. Every single man who fought under Ernest Benjamin was worth ten of the combined total of your carefully monitoring talking shop.

Uck-U Jenna Delich and Mike Cushman! [Aug. 21st, 2008|01:05 am]

[mood |accomplished]

THIS AIN'T JENNA DELICH

The 700-strong mailing list of the British Union of Colleges and Universities (UCU, aka Uck-U)is currently permitting a patently one-sided discussion of a boycott of Israeli academics by self-termed "political activists". The vituperation and diabolical nastiness of many of the comments is too great to go into on one post, but one recent e-mail stood out in a field of filth.

First, bear in mind that legal advice provided to UCU has explicitly laid out that proposals for denying services or co-operation with one named group, e.g. Israelis and/or Zionist Jews, [demanded by the boycott-instigators] without a specified loyalty test [demanded by the boycott-instigators] with regards to the policies of any country, e.g. Israel, would contravenes anti-discrimination legislation even if Jews (including 80% of the Israeli population) ain't defined as a specific racial group. Yet approved members of the UCU e-mail list - financed through funds of this legally recognized trade union - are permitted, like faecal vomiting, to promote these agenda in increasingly toxic and Streicher-like [1] terms whilst matters related to provision of higher education and attention to non-Israel related matters fall by the wayside. And anti-boycotters (some of whom favour boycotting the boycotters) are expelled from the list on spurious [2] charges.

Even with all of this, the actions of one Jenna Delich - minor Sheffield-based lecturer of some sort, no hanging on coat-tails here, and who has already been subject to at least two complaints about her conduct on the UCU list - last week took the biscuit. In response to, you guessed it, summat about the combined tragedy of Israel and Palestine, she augmented her argument with a URL to an article on a site by one David Duke [3]. For those of you who don't know him, I hope you ain't "political activists" who claim to be rooting out fascism and racism in Britain of 2008, because he's a former Grand Wizard of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan. For those still unsure about this organization, it's populated by a bunch of white supremacist racists and Nazis and slathering antisemites.

Fairly elementary stuff, like Leftists supporting the National Insurance Act or NHS or universal suffrage, you would have thought. But not to Ms. Delich. She posts - on trade union resources, possibly from her work computer - a gushing link to said wizened old reactionary racist's site:

>> John, in support to your link this may be a long but also an interesting reading:

>> duke.com/general/
>> humanitarian-disaster_595.html

>> No comment necessary. The facts are speaking for themselves.

>> Jenna

>> JENNA DELICH

(Do not open the URL on work network or if you have a weak stomach. Don't worry if you are viewing this at work, as it ain't HTML so does not constitute publication, and I have split the URL up so you cannot absentmindedly click.)

Let's ignore the matter of facts saying diddly-squat, and not being pieces of knowledge which must be absorbed and made meaning of by human minds (this is an academic... no... a member of a body which associates itself with academics?). Let's just concentrate on the matter of her linking to KKK and Nazi literature. When this boob was pointed out, her responses have included that she didn't know who he was (will she now link to one Kenny Smith [5] on immigration issues, or is it only Israel she takes the BNP line on?) or, my favourite, that because it was on Google, it was alright!

Had Nuremberg been an academic senate, Goring would have said of von Rippentrop, he deserved to be dismissed if only for his stupidity.

No, here's a tip Doctor Delich... sorry... Ms. Delich... I habitually call academics, Doctor... try Googling your name. In the top ten, you will find *six* references to your disseminating Nazi literature! Got to be true!

Ah, but fortunately the anti Daddy Warbucks of the UCU list, research fellow Mike Cushman, came like St. George to her rescue and fought the Zionist worm, and accepted her apology on behalf of the whole list. Mr. Cushman, with study in correct web-usage, was able to assure the lesser mortals that web-searching can be fraught with difficulties and it there is just a cigarette-paper of difference between appropriate resources and promoting, with government and staff funded services, hate material. Ah, bless. Maybe he should point her in the direction of the correct web-usage guides every first year student has to pass: I was once tapped on the shoulder 'cos I viewed the BNP website for a Nick Griffin quote. Did I mention that this spirit of equanimity does not appear to apply to anti-boycotters [2]?

But, that ain't all. A relatively well-known Mid-Pond blog, Harry's Place - a cauldron battle in the Stupid Wars if ever there was one - published pretty much the above, as it has followed UCU matters. Snarling threats were issued on the UCU list by Mr. Cushman, as well as posts on Harry's Place such as one "Anon", that Ms. Delich should sue. Maybe if she'd handed around a hard-copy of KKK material in the privacy of her own home whilst goose-stepping with the Cheeky Girls I'd listen to pleas for respect of privacy (and, then again, maybe snot), but, did I mention, this is an official organ state-recognized trade union? If an internal memo of the London mayoral office promoting the writings of Taki, would we listen to pleas for privacy?

Today, after the bank holiday, Harry's Place finds itself suspended from DNS recognition (although a mirror site of Ms. Delich's bon mots exists [6]). When contacting its providers, it's informed that a serious complaint has been received. No details of the nature or plaintive have been provided, but I think the facts are speaking for themselves. I hope Ms. Delich has no free-thinking Jewish students.

So, sue me as well, Delich and Cushman!

Someone else who thought he could endorse Nazi and volkish racist material was Nicholas Kolerstrom [7], ex of University College London [8]. He received commisserations from David Duke [9].
